Recommendation for the award of the Military Medal:

Action for which commended:
For conspicuous gallantry at the 41st Battery position near WESTHOEK E of

ammunition dump were set alight and commenced to burn and explode. Regardless
of the heavy shell fire and imminent danger from our own exploding ammunition,

the spot and worked with buckets and tins of water until the several fires
were extinguished. The gallant and timely acton of this non-commissioned
officer not only saved the gun and about 1000 rounds of ammunition, 18 p-r but
set a splendid example to all ranks of soldierly conduct and devotion to duty.

The award of the Military Medal was gazetted in the London Gazette of 14
